What is loyc?

loyc are carpets made from leftover yarn.
All designs are experiments with colours and layers.

the idea

After we discovered the full yarn store of our carpet manufacturer, it was immediately clear to us that we had stumbled upon a great treasure and that we absolutely wanted to work with it.

We see this as a contribution to sustainable production, no longer dyeing yarns for carpets ourselves, but producing them exclusively from material remnants. We developed a concept for sorting the warehouses on site and communicating with the manufacturer in Nepal so that both sides have an overview of colours and qualities.

production process

Another element to consider is that not every yarn is in stock in every colour and desired quantity. Therefore, at the beginning of the process, we specify the colour direction and our weaver goes to the warehouse to search for the matching yarns, or makes suggestions on your part. So it remains exciting which colours are actually found, whether wool, silk or vegetable yarns are used or mixed and how the design develops in the dialogue.

But it is also possible to start from a certain yarn quality and the colours in stock and design with it.

This is how the idea for the loyc rugs came about. They are playful designs made of colours and layers, in which we either act completely free or incorporate colour suggestions from our customer.

With the finest Nepalese craftsmanship, such as relief cutting or sumak, loycs become detailed works of art.
